| Hi from Rick: Olá Portugal! |
Olá from Portugal! As I write this I'm in Lisbon — wearing my favorite t-shirt — enjoying a tasty bucket of clams with my beer as I sort through the local cuisine.
I've been in Europe just one day (59 to go) and it's great to be settling-in with my guidebook research. Here in Lisbon, venerable market halls are becoming food circuses for gourmets. Three-wheeled "tuk tuks" (like those in India) are rivaling local taxis. A leftist coalition is in power but reluctantly ruling within the austerity limits placed on it by the EU. With greater affluence, grim and dicey neighborhoods (like Cais do Sodre and Intendente) are being reinvented as fun and trendy... Read more |
