I'm back in Europe, researching my guidebooks and topping up my arsenal of practical tips. For example, it's funny to me how tourists are disinclined to walk 15 minutes away from the tourist zone to find a restaurant filled with locals and offering double the joy, taste, and memory. I love a high-energy local favorite. But sometimes that energy can be overwhelming for the American traveler who doesn't speak the language.
