One of the first guidebooks I ever used — back when I was a teenager with a huge appetite for enlivening Europe's balconies, statues, and piazzas with vivid history — was called Turn Right at the Fountain. While that book is long out of print, its legacy lives on in my passion for helping travelers find meaning in each balcony, statue, and piazza.
